# How old do you have to be to work at ShopRite?

ShopRite doesn't publish a minimum age for its entry-level jobs, and the postings we checked don't state one. Some roles do: Any job operating balers, hi-lo's, power jacks or slicers require 18+. Your state's law sets the floor.

ShopRite stores are run by dozens of independent family-owned operators in the Wakefern cooperative (e.g. Village, Inserra, RoNetco), so each operator sets its own hiring age. None of the 140 bagger, cashier and front-end postings we checked on ShopRite's job site (NJ, NY, CT, MD, PA; Oct 2026) state a general minimum age; they only say you must be 18 to operate balers, hi-lo's, power jacks and slicers.

## Questions

**How old do you have to be to work at ShopRite?**
ShopRite doesn't publish a minimum age for its entry-level jobs, and the postings we checked don't state one. Some roles do: Any job operating balers, hi-lo's, power jacks or slicers require 18+. Your state's law sets the floor.

**Does ShopRite hire 14- or 15-year-olds?**
Some stores may, but we couldn't confirm it from an official posting. The postings don't rule out younger teens. They only say you must be 18 to use equipment like balers, power jacks and slicers. Ask the store's manager, and get working papers if your state requires them.

**What job can a teen get at ShopRite?**
Bagger and cashier are the usual entry jobs. Deli, bakery and other jobs that use slicers or power equipment need you to be 18 for those tasks.

**How much does ShopRite pay a bagger or cashier?**
Bagger and cashier postings we checked in October 2026 start at $15.92 an hour at most New Jersey stores, $16–17 in New York, $16.94 in Connecticut and $15 in Maryland. Pay is set by the local owner and is listed on each posting.

**Do I need working papers to work at ShopRite?**
If you're under 18 in states like New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania or Maryland, yes, the state requires a work permit for minors. Your school usually helps you get one.
